The 44th Dancesport Varsity Match took place on Saturday 6th May, 2017 at the Cambridge University Sport Centre – the final fixture of the season for the Cambridge University Dancesport Team and their chance to seal another undefeated season.
After a successful domestic season, Cambridge University Dancesport Team has extended its winning streak abroad with an international victory in China last weekend. The team was invited to send four of its top couples to compete in the first ever China Ballroom Dance Federation International Academy Team Match, competing against five other universities from the US and Asia: Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, National Taiwan University and Stanford University. Against some talented competition and in the face of some serious jet lag, CUDT secured the title with an impressive display.
After an unbeaten run earlier this term in Sheffield and Cardiff, CUDT travelled to Blackpool on Saturday 25th February to take part in the 55th Inter-Varsity Dance Competition (IVDC) – the National Championship of the student dancesport circuit, which boasts more than 1000 competitors. We arrived again as defending champions, and amid some very tough competition, came away with the title for the sixth consecutive year.
The Nottingham Varsity Ball was the first Inter-Varsity fixture for CUDT of the year, on Saturday 26th November 2016. After just six weeks of intense choreography learning and training, established couples, new partnerships and even those completely new to Dancesport would be tested against other universities. This year, the Nottingham competition was bigger than ever. Moved to a larger venue and with 22 other universities in attendance (including Oxford), it was to be a long and testing day for each of CUDT’s competitors.
