The academic year 2020-21 is going to look a little different to normal years for CUDT. This page will be updated with information regarding training, classes and competitions this year as we have it. If your question is not answered, please get in touch with the Captains.
We will not be expecting any member of CUDT to take part in in-person activities if they do not wish to, and we will be running a number of online activities which we hope will enable everyone to keep dancing this year. Our risk assessment for this academic year can be found here.
Due to Government guidelines regarding social distancing, we will not be partnering our team at the moment, and all dancing at our training sessions will be done solo.
CUDT will not be competing in Michaelmas 2020. We hope to be able to compete towards the middle and end of the academic year in 2021, but cannot guarantee that competitions will run.
As far as possible, in-person training spaces will be available this year, although in a much reduced volume to normal years, and obeying all social distancing rules. We are hoping to run weekend CUDT training sessions at the University Sports Centre, led by our coaches, which will have a limited capacity for in-person attendance as well as being recorded to be shared with CUDT members. These will be run in the style of a class rather than free practice space to enable us to keep to strict COVID-19-safe spacing requirements.
CDC training spaces (at Kelsey Kerridge Sports Centre, one of Mon/Wed/Fri 9–11pm) will also be available in a reduced capacity. These will need to be booked through CDC to obey occupancy limits; as a member of CUDT, you also have to be a member of CDC and so should be signed up to the appropriate mailing list. These sessions will be open practice space, with no coaching, as they have been in previous years.
Classes and lessons
CDC classes will be running on Zoom on Monday and Tuesday evenings during term time. The full timetable can be found here. The classes relevant to our members are:
BALLROOM, Monday evenings starting 12th October: 6.15–7.15pm (Beginners); 7.30–8.30pm (Intermediates).
LATIN, Tuesday evenings starting 13th October: 7.45–8.45pm (Beginners); 9–10pm (Intermediates).
All members of CUDT will have information on how to get CDC membership to access these classes emailed to them, but the CDC membership sign up form can also be found here. CDC membership is £15, and this will include access to either Beginners Ballroom and Latin online classes; Intermediate Ballroom; or Intermediate Latin. Additional class access will be £10 per set of online classes (either Beginners Ballroom and Latin; Intermediate Ballroom; or Intermediate Latin).
Private lessons organised through CUDT with our coaching team are unlikely to be happening in person in Michaelmas, however we hope to be able to offer online lessons with our coaches.
